New Delhi: The government will soon be relieved by the increase in petrol prices in the country. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the government is in favor of bringing petrol and diesel under GST, but its decision will be decided by the GST conference. Petroleum substances will be directly affected on its prices when included in GST.
Replying to the Rajya Sabha during the Question Hour, the Petrol was included in the revised GST, but the decision to implement it would be the GST conference. He said the GST conference includes the finance ministers of states and union territories, and all have the consent to make a decision.
Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said in the high court that now the BJP has 19 states and the government in the center. What is the problem then to bring petroleum products to the GST system? When will the GST Council decide on this matter? In response to this question, Jaitley said that while presenting the draft GST, the UPA also did not include petroleum products. The reason was that there is no consensus between the center and the states on it. On this issue, we are waiting for the states ‘consent and hope that this will be successful soon.’
